The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau Region 7 (DENR-EMB7) and Pollution Control Association of the Philippines, Inc. Region 7 (PCAPI-7) conducted an Environmental Summit on May 13, 2014 at the Grand Convention Center of Cebu.
During the seminar, the new DENR Administrative Order 2014-02 (Revised Guidelines for Pollution Control Officer Accreditation) was tackled in details including the issues and concerns of PCOs related to it, the new Chemical Control Order for Lead and Lead Compounds, Supplemental Guidelines for Phil. Inventory of Chemicals and Chemical Substances, revised Procedures and Standards for the Management of Hazardous Wastes, the Provisional National Ambient Air Quality Guideline Value established for Particulate Matter 2.5 (PM2.5), among others. The number of hours earned through the EnviroSummit serves as valid training hours for new / renewal of PCO accreditation since the topics in the program are integral parts of the new PCO Training Module.
Aiming to carry out the national policy of maintaining a reasonable quality of the environment pursuant to other pertinent environmental laws, standards and guidelines are being revised including the one for Pollution Control Officer Accreditation. The new DENR Administrative Order (DAO 2014-02) deals with more stringent provisions to be consistent with the protection, preservation and revival of our natural resources while we pursue economic growth.
The speakers of the training who came straight from Manila are all from Environmental Management Bureau, Central Office, namely, Mr. Renato Cruz – Chief, Environmental Quality Division, Engr. Jean Rosete – Chief, Air Quality Management Section, Engr. Geronimo Sañez – Chief, Hazardous Wastes Management Section and Ms. Emmanuelita D. Mendoza – OIC-Chief, Chemical Management Section.
