PCAPI7 SPREADS CHRISTMAS CHEER TO BARANGAY LUZ CHILDREN BRINGING A MESSAGE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

The year 2015 has been good to PCAPI7 (Pollution Control Association of the Philippines Inc.-Region 7 is the association of pollution control officers/environmental officers from companies, LGUs, schools, government agencies and other establishments). The association has been blessed with many new members, a new set of hardworking officers, great partners and countless opportunities. It was time to pay forward. This year, aside from celebrating Christmas as an organization, the officers decided to extend its celebration to the community.

PCAPI7 celebrated Christmas with the children from Barangay Luz last Friday, December 4, at 9:30 AM. The children, ages 7 -10, flocked to the Barangay Hall dressed in their party clothes, each burning with excitement and anticipation. The program was hosted by 20 seminarian volunteers from San Carlos Seminary College who took the opportunity to spread Christmas cheer among the children, as well as campaign for proper solid waste management. After all, the theme for the event was “The Environment through the Eyes of the Children.”

Ato puniton ang basura aron dili magbaha”, this was the advice of Robin Maglasang of Sitio Calinao, when asked what he learned from the games and mini lecture at the PCAPI7 Christmas party held in Barangay Luz, Cebu City. Robin was one of the 105 children who participated in PCAPI7 Christmas Party for the Community.

The program included community singing, group dancing and picture taking, environmental games, a brief talk on the importance of waste management, “salo-salo” and distribution of gifts which included school supplies, candies, chips and toy.

Barangay Captain Jerume Pagador and Barangay Councilor Ronie Sab-a graced the event, lending PCAPI7 their full support.  Women volunteers from the barangay’s Gender and Development (GAD) were tapped to prepare the food treat for the children that included party favorites fried chicken, spaghetti and hotdog.

The event opened the eyes of many on how children may be the best agents of change for the environment.
