The Environmental Management Bureau Region 7 and the Pollution Control Association of the Philippines, Inc. Region 7 organized together a Wastewater Treatment Training in Central Visayas on March 26-27, 2014 at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Cebu City
Water has been under increasing pressure from demographic, economic and climatic changes. The water bodies in the region are adversely affected as shown by the regular water quality monitoring results and seeing the great urgent need, DENR-EMB7 and PCAPI-7 organized the said training for it is their main thrust to help address this menacing problem.
Wastewater treatment and recycling is a pressing concern for the region. Treatment processes play a key role in delivering safe, reliable supplies of water and in safeguarding the quality of water in rivers, lakes, aquifers and around coastal areas. The Environmental Management Bureau was urging companies to this essential need – seeing the possibilities to run and maintain their own wastewater treatment facility which would require well educated, skilled and experienced PCO, to operate and manage vital wastewater treatment services.
This Wastewater Treatment Training was geared toward the following goals:
- To develop the basic competences needed for the follow-up of processes for the treatment and management of industrial and domestic wastewaters to meet required water quality standards; and
- To aquire a deeper understanding on the chemical and physical processes involved with existing and emerging wastewater treatment technologies and to review specific applications, provide practical guidance, and examine safety and health issues, pollution prevention implications and impacts on other environmental media.
Over two hundred one (201) participants attended the training. The resource persons were renowned experts of the World Bank and GIZ (German Society for International Cooperation), the couple Engr. Manuel l. Gloria Jr. – Principal Consultant of Aquatreat Environmental Systems Inc./ GIZ and Mrs. Fe V. Ku-Gloria – Operations Manager and Chief Environmental Management and Training Consultant of Auatreat Environmental Systems Inc.
This training was the start and part of a more extensive course in Region 7 for Wastewater Management, Treatment and Recycling inclusive of WTF Designs and Operations.
