Eighty (80) new (and not so new) pollution control officers (PCOs) from a total of 66 companies in the region attended the last PCO Intensive Training/Capability Development Course held last February 15 – 19, 2016 at Golden Prince Hotel, Archbishop Reyes Avenue, Cebu City.
Using the standard training module from EMB Central Office, trainees were instructed on the salient points of the various environmental laws under the mandate of DENR such as PD 1586, RA 9003, RA 6969, RA 8749, and RA 9275 including DAO 2014-02 requiring the appointment of PCOs. They were taught through workshops and demonstrations how to prepare the required reports for submission to EMB, how to apply for the required permits for environmental devices, how to do sampling of wastewater, air emissions and even soil for monitoring and reporting purposes, how to investigate and report environmental incidences that may occur in the course of company operations. Resource persons were provided by EMB7.
This 40-hrs training is part of the requirement for PCO accreditation by EMB. The next accreditation training is scheduled on April 25 – 29, 2016.
